"Sharing A Love of Art"

On exhibition now through November 8th

Closing Reception: Saturday, November 8, 4-6 p.m

Coventry, CT, October 29, 2008 -- Coventry's Muse Le Belle Artiste Gallery is currently exhibiting "Sharing A Love of Art," works by seven award-winning artists from Connecticut.  The exhibition runs through Saturday, November 8th, when the artists will be honored at a closing reception from 4-6 pm.

Nancy Cooke Bunnell: Nancy is a creative teacher and is a passionate artist who has taught for more than 25 years. Presently she teaches at the Community School of Art, the senior center, and in her own studio in Willington. She has worked in a variety of mediums but prefers photography, oil, and pastels. Her work is infused with light, color, and energy. She prefers the freshness and spontaneity of painting in the open air or plein air.

Toni Ellzey: Toni is a retired nurse and a student of Shauna Shane. She loves painting still life, plein air, landscapes and people.  She especially enjoys painting children and her work reflects her ability to capture their innocence.   She tends to agonize over each work, saying with humor, "Vermeer did this also but, alas, my finished work is not remotely similar."

Will Ellzey:  Will is a retired physician and self-taught artist who has enjoyed painting since he was a child.  A student of Shauna Shane and Foster Cadell, he particularly enjoys doing landscapes, portraits and paintings of animals.  Among his works in this exhibit is a landscape of Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine.

Katherine H. Mann: Katherine's favorite genre is still life and an important source of inspiration for her is the produce section of the grocery store where all those shapes and colors beckon to her. She is also drawn to flowers, old barns and local landscapes. It is the beauty of nature that she tries to capture, using the finest paints and usually Belgian linen on board. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions around the state and included in the 77th Hudson Valley Art.

Nancy C. Marshall: Nancy grew up surrounded by artists.  Her grandfather was a folk artist who had his first show at age 90; her mother painted as a hobby; her aunt is a painter in Colorado; and her father is a nature photographer. At age five she began to paint and has been painting ever since.  Her keen observation of nature helps her see the abstract shapes of light and shadows, and the beautiful colors that exist everywhere.

Judith Meyers: Judith's lifelong love of the out-of doors led her to become a painter of the natural world. Many of her oil paintings were created au plein air or in combination with a photograph. She has taught all art mediums in Connecticut schools for more than 20 years and created hand-painted fabrics and furniture for the design industry. She has studied with the contemporary painters she most admires, among them Shauna Shane, Hollis Dunlop, and Christopher Zhang.

Shauna Shane:  Shauna has been painting professionally for 25 years. A former Resident Artist at Yellowstone National Park, she works in a variety of mediums including watercolor and oil, infusing her work with light and color. Her paintings of landscapes, still life and figures communicate not only the energy and the unique atmosphere of a scene, but also that subtle emotional connection between the subject and viewer. Her paintings are included in collections around the world.

Following the November 8th artists' reception, two Buddhist monks from Namgyal Monastery will lead a meditation, which is free and open to the public.  People are asked to bring a potluck dish and enjoy a time of quiet conversation. To reserve a seat, please call 860.498.0307.
