The new exhibition features works by encaustics and mixed media artist Jan Geoghegan, pastel artist Mary Lang Killilea, portrait photographer Deirdre Jessica McLoive, and painter and photographer Richard White.
OPENING RECEPTION April 13, 2-4 pm The four artists, all from Connecticut, will be honored at a reception on Sunday, April 13, from 2-4 pm. Between 2:30-3:30 pm, the Willimantic Amphibian Jazz Ensemble will perform the American Songbook of standards including Gershwin, Porter, Ellington and others. Performing will be Joe Tomanelli on the tenor sax and flute; Phil Palonen on the guitar; Greg Yuska on the piano; Vinny Rogers on the trumpet; and Bruce Bellingham on the double bass. Special guest performer will be June Bisantz-Evans, whose new release "Let's Fall in Love" is based on the vocal work of legendary jazz artist Chet Baker.
"Cows & Ancient Painting Techniques in a Contemporary World" comprises recent works by these four award-winning Connecticut-based artists.
Mary Lang Killilea started working in pastel 18 years ago. Among the many fine artists she has studied under is Master Pastelist Peter Seltzer. Her subjects vary from traditional landscapes to light-hearted contemporary animal portraits. Her longtime fascination with color has led her to experiment with different color theories. By using different underpaintings in her work, she produces bold, contemporary work. She was featured in the 2006 book entitled Pure Color the Best of Pastel. Among the awards she has received are 1st place, the Pastel Journal annual competition; 1st place pastel, Glastonbury Fine Art Show 2005, 2007; 3rd place pastel, Mystic Outdoor Art Show 2005, 2007; and The Sax Gold medal award for watercolor. The Glastonbury native now lives and maintains her studio in East Hampton.
Jan Geoghegan is a Connecticut native and artist whose encaustics and mixed media works have been exhibited at many venues including the University of Connecticut, The New Britain Museum of American Art, Mystic Art Association, Slater Museum, West Hartford Art League, and the Essex Art Association. She has works in several corporate and public collections including Beneficial Finance Corporation, Delaware State Division of Libraries, Manchester Community College, New England Telephone Company, The University of Connecticut Health Center, and Western New England College, Springfield, MA. A member of Connecticut Women Artists and Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, Jan has over 25 years of experience in the repair and restoration of oil paintings in both private and public collections.
